Details:
Venus and Jupiter are now rapidly descending while Mercury is ascending in the evening twilight sky. On August 6 and 7, the trio will become more packed low on the western horizon at nightfall. This time the conjunction will favor observers in the Southern Hemisphere. I was able to capture them from a small town 100km east of the center of Rio de Janeiro. The photos (taken with a Canon SX60 HS camera and treated for reducing noise and enhancing contrast and sharpness), show the three planets floating very low over a neighboring house and coconut trees. Bright Venus is seen on the left. The star Regulus (right) is also seen in most photos above Jupiter and Mercury (lowest). The photos were taken at 21:06-10 UT this evening.
