Details:
A time-lapse sequence of 656 images taken at 10 second intervals between 05.46 and 07 35 LT on 13 July shows the rise of a waxing crescent moon and development of a beautifully colored sunrise twilight arch over an indigenous Musasa tree at the back of my garden in Mutare, Zimbabwe. Both moon and arch then fade into a normal dawn sky which after half an hour gradually brightens to reveal a glorious sunrise above the hills of the Cecil Kop Nature Reserve. The images, six of which are presented here, were captured with a tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 compact camera in sunset auto mode and then processed to produce a time-lapse video which runs at 10 frames per second for uploading to YouTube. Brightly colored sunset and sunrise twilight arches caused by aerosols from the Calbuco eruption in April continue to be observed from Mutare although their intensity and frequency is now diminishing.
