Captured this beauty yesterday morning. Many attempts before always failed due to intense sunflare and completely burned out pics. I was wondering what that intense blue colour on the outer halo indicates?

What we see in the image is predominantly due to internal reflections in the camera lens. It is a pity that you did not cover the sun, by a street lamp, chimnee of even by a finger tip. In the picture we can not distinguish now what is real halo and ghost image halo in the lens. The ghost image is also the origin of the blue color rim.
