On Monday 6th July 2015, the International Space Station was scheduled to pass close by the pairing of Venus and Jupiter as seen from Brisbane, Qld, Australia. The Sun set at 5:06pm and Astronomical Twilight started at: 05:16pm, so the skies were still quite bright when at approx. 5:43 pm AEST (UT+10h) I glimpsed the unmistakable dot of the ISS in the field of view of the camera and began pressing the remote shutter release to expose a series of short, 2 sec exposures to record the trail. I then grabbed a Canon 7D fitted with 400mm telephoto lens and x1.4 Extender and chased the ISS across the skies as it climbed towards the zenith. During the series of captures, I also recorded aeroplane trails that passed through the field as the ISS aptly roared by in the constellation of Leo the Lion. The composite photo shows insets of Venus and Jupiter taken through a Vixen 4” refractor and an inset of the ISS as recorded with the telephoto lens. Cheers Dennis
