Details:
The forecasts called for a burst of activity last night, June 21, and they were right. About 12:30 am MDT a faint aurora appeared in the north and brightened for a few minutes before 1 am in a minor substorm. Curtains reached up into the north, tinted blue and purple. The second and third images are from that substorm brightening. Then the aurora faded and settled back into the typical post-substorm flickering and pulsing, though faint and low in the north for me here at 50° N in western Canada. I shot these overlooking a nearby lake and reservoir, to capture the reflection of the display in the water. Each image is a frame from a 360-frame time lapse, and is 15 seconds at ISO 3200 and f/2.5.
