Details:
As a follow-up of last years "Voyager 3"-project ( https://vimeo.com/98291257 ) we wanted to test the possibility to do an animation on Jupiters cloudbelts that would show the rotation of the Great Red Spot.
We agreed to limit the coverage of Jupiters surface around the transit of the GRS and to do it for only 12 consecutive days, 10-22 March 2015, which correspond to 3 complete rotations of the GRS.
Jupiter rotates in around 10 hours so in order to be able to capture more transits we got a fantastic help from Anthony Wesley, Phil Miles and Trevor Barry from Australia as well as Emil Kraaikamp from Holland.
In Sweden we are Torbjörn Holmqvist, Johan Warell, Martin Högberg, Christoffer Svenske, Göran Strand, Daniel Sundström, Roger Utas, and myself, Peter Rosén.
The picture I post here is an incredible Hubble-like view captured by Emil and is one of a total of 139 images that we used for the animation.
I also used morphing techniques to fill in the inevitable gaps.
Welcome to the solar systems biggest storm in action:
