Details:
This photo of sunspots was taken through a Tasco 12x32 binocular with Baader solar filter, costing about $30. These binocs are easily adapted for solar eclipses and sunspotting. Plans for adding these filters are on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/80860174301/files/ The black binocs are 12x32 Tasco for about $20; the red ones are 10x25 Tasco for about $13; the 12x gives a better solar image for viewing and photography. The photo was taken through the eyepiece with an Olympus D-595 on auto setting, 3x zoom.

The 1.5 set of Baader filters used here cost $7.50 +$1.50 S&H from Draco Productions at www.dracoproductions.net; they give a much better, brighter image than with Black Polymer filters (such as the Astronomical Leagues solar glasses), which did not reveal any spots with the same binocs. If a club wants to use Kodak 35mm film canisters, as shown in the plans, and make a larger number of these for the eclipse in 2017, the larger sheets of Baader are also available from AstroPhysics. The Tasco binocs are available at Gander Mountain for $13 for the 10x25, and $20 for the 12x32 sets.
