Details:
The evening of March 3 saw a trio of colourful planets line up in the western twilight. Red Mars, white Venus and green Uranus were within a 5 degree binocular field, and will be for the next two nights. In this shot Uranus lies just above Venus, a contrast of not only colours but also brilliance, with Venus now outshining any other starlike object in the night sky, while Uranus requires binoculars to see. Below the pair lies reddish Mars, easily visible to the naked eye but much dimmer than Venus. I shot this with a 135mm telephoto lens and Canon 60Da camera on a tracking device, the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer, to follow the sky during the set of 25-second exposures I stacked to create a final image with less noise than a single image.
