Details:
Comet Lovejoy was still visible to the unaided eye on this night, but growing fainter, with the tail still also apparent in binoculars. It is moving towards Cassiopeia and into a region of interesting deep sky objects. The accompanying annotated image identifies these objects and shows comet positions to March 17, including a close encounter with M76 (The Little Dumbbell) on February 20-21.
This image is a stack of fourteen 60-second exposures at ISO6400, taken with a Canon 60Da and 50mm F1.4 lens, on an Ioptron SkyTracker platform. The field-of-view is 21.3 x 14.5 degrees. Approximately two degrees of tail length was captured.
Sky conditions - Transparency: Fair-Good, Seeing: Fair-Good, Temperature: -22C (with a breezy wind chill of -36C!)
