Details:
We had another fine clear night in Churchill, Manitoba, at the Northern Studies Centre, with the aurora dancing across the sky, even under a Kp Index of 2/Quiet. I've been shooting time-lapse sequences each night, using a fish-eye lens to capture most of the sky. The resulting movies will be suitable for projection in digital planetarium domes. These frames are from a 500-frame sequence I shot on February 18. They show the curving multiple curtains of aurora snaking out of the northeast at bottom and waving across the sky to the west at left. The first two frames show most of the sky at top covered by a patchy dim aurora, separated from the main bright curtains below by a dark band. The other frames show the main green curtains topped by the magenta tint characteristic of high-altitude auroras.
