Details:
Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy photographed by Mark Seibold, with 42 year old college days mamiya/sekor 55mm f/1.4 lens adapted to a Sony NEX5, riding/equatorial tracking atop a Celestron Nexstar 5i Cassegrain Telescope- January 24th 2015.
I had just recently learned the better tracking program setup utilizing the 46 degree latitude setting and program within the telescopes handset program, so I was confident that I could get a decent longer time exposure, but low and behold I was still a little drifting here at times, limited by distant light pollution from my current rural town 35 miles from Portland Oregon, and then worse, high thin clouds formed (as seen in the upper portion of this photograph) and the clouds are further lit with that light pollution, even from a small rural town, so this may have added to the degradation of the comets tail here, or it also adds some beautiful color contrast in the sky. And lastly I used 1600 ISO, which the older Sony NEX5 sadly renders high noise at this ISO level. Looking soon for an upgrade Sony A6000 or A7; then final proper Post Processing Photoshop adjustments. *And then came the selfie, superimposed of course for your viewing pleasure of the photographer! (; This shows the all of the equipment used.
