Details:
The last 3 Lovejoy comets. Quite interesting how different the three of them are. I even added a second photo for C/2014 Q2 because it looked so beautifully different with such few days of difference.
Details with respect to the image of all comets together:
- Leftmost: C/2011 W3 from Buenos Aires, Argentina under extreme light pollution and close to sunrise. For this reason I needed to use a lot of processing with Photoshop (I don't usually like to process photos too much).13 sec unguided exposure with Canon T1i and 35mm lens ASA 400. The date was 12/24/2011. The line on the bottom right is the ISS. This was the brightest of the three with a the longest tail. It looked like a faint search light.
- Second from left: C/2013 R1 from 25 miles NW of Austin, Texas. Photo taken on 1/1/2014 with a Canon T3i mounted on the prime focus of a C 925. 60 seconds exposure at ISO 6400 and some little processing with Photoshop. This comet helped to reduce a lot the disappointment with ISON.
- Two rightmost photos: C/2014 Q2 taken using a $50 Celestron Travelscope 70 as a lens of a Canon T3i. For tracking the Travelscope was mounted piggybacked on a C925. Both photos are a single 60 seconds exposure at ISO 6400 with some little Photoshop processing. They were taken from different locations as I was looking for a very dark place with no clouds. The second one from the right was taken at Cherry Springs State Park, PA on 1/13/2015 on a very cold night (about -19C). The one on the further right was taken near Circleville, WV on 1/19. Indicated date and location for all photos is just for this last one photo. Of the three comets, I think this one ended up being the most beautiful one. I can't wait for next comet discovered by T. Lovejoy
