Details:
I knew I had only a few minutes of rare clear sky before the next sleet shower rolled in. So this was hit-and-run astrophotography: I plonked the AstroTrac & camera on the patio and spent all of 10 seconds eyeballing it on the pole. Aimed at the target and started firing away! It's an imperfect result - patchy cloud moved through the field in some frames, there's drift from polar misalignment, and it needed more exposure time than the weather allowed me - but I'm happy to have captured some of the long tail, and the striking juxtaposition with M45. Details: Canon 5DII, 120/4 macro lens (Mamiya 645 format), ISO 1600, mix of 30/60/120 second exposures: 16 minutes in all.
