What a night in the Arctic! First the weather forecast announced clear skies only in the area of Kirkenes, Northern Norway, so that's where I headed first. Some nice aurora was visible there around 6:30pm local Norwegian time (first photo). After this, a green band remained above the northern horizon for the next couple of hours. As nothing really interesting was happening and the aurora forecast was quite low, I decided to start driving back "home" further south in Finland. On the way there a green glow in the sky caught my attention and I stopped on the side of the road. The aurora was back! (2nd and 3rd photo). Finally, after getting back home, I was watching a sky camera that's located nearby, and realised that the aurora was back and even stronger! I rushed outside to take the 4th photo of this series. If only the weather forecast had announced clear skies above my home instead of snow...
