We just had to go out even though we where wrapping christmas presents and it was our night off from the usual Aurora hunt here with Marianne's Heaven On Earth Aurora Chaser Tours/ / M.H.O.E.A.C.T. So just after midnight on the 24 th of December we drove out to Kvaløya at Grøtjord . The magnetic field had been north facing for the last 24 hours and had been blocking any chance of any aurora getting through our strong magnetic field . But a cme was due if it had not all ready arrived , so there was no way we could stay at home while all this activity was about to happen, as the bz had now changed to a high south -ward facing 14.5 bz. Which was now letting the Aurora pour through the gap in the magnetic field, So now the Aurora door was open for the rest of the night . Wawh. It was worth the bone chilling -12 that we encountered ,as we where not properly dressed for this occasion due to a spur of the moment decision . The Aurora danced for the remainder of the evening. We did not returned until at 4.30 am on the eve of our christmas morning here in tromsø , even though the aurora was still dancing as we left. We managed to have a few hours sleep before we started to prepare our christmas dinner for that day. God Jul / Merry Christmas to all . Www.chasethelightours.co.uk
