Details:
I send you this image obtained this past dawn December 14th, 2014, maximum of Geminids shower. This image is a combination of different pictures centered on the Orion Nebula (M42) using a high quality telephoto lens with a DSLR.
One can see short lines (for individual relatively short exposures) approximately parallel horizontally due to geostationary satellites. The long diagonal trails are Geminids, abundants despite being a small area of sky, indicating the high activity of this meteor shower. The sky background is full of nebula and dust, as it is a rich area of the sky in star formation. In the center of the image is shown the famous Orion Nebula M42 while in the upper left is the Horsehead Nebula. North is up.
The photographs were obtained between 00:50 UT and 5:10 UT from Teide Observatory (IAC, Institute of Astrophysics of Canary), on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands).
Image acquisition, Miquel Serra-Ricart (IAC, www.starryearth.com), processing, Juan Carlos Casado (www.starryearth.com, www.twanight.org).
