Details:
A controlled burn in the Coconino National Forest colors the sky during the partial solar eclipse on October 23, 2014. We looked for a spot where the partially eclipsed sun would drop into the trees of a mountain ridge. We finally found a spot along Elden Springs Road, northeast of Flagstaff, Arizona. The wide field image is an HDR stack of 7 image — two of which were filtered with a white light mylar solar filter — to capture the full range of brightness throughout the image. The other two highly magnified images were shot through an Orion XT8 8-inch f/5.9 telescope fitted with a white light mylar solar filter and a 32 mm eyepiece for 37.5X magnification. An enormous mass of sunspots in AR2192 decorates the center of the sun in these two images.
