After a afternoon photographing killer whales, I could go outside again for northern lights. Yeah, life is not bad on the Lofoten Islands. :)
Saturday my Canon 6D arrived, so the splendid aurora on the 18-th gave a opportunity to compare my 5D MKII with the 6D. I did that simply in front of our house.
First impressions. Indeed a bit lesser noise at 3200 and certainly a lot lesser color noise. Colors from the 5D MKII looked better to me, but maybe that's because that one had the Zeiss 21mm and the 6D my new 16-35mm f/4. But that 16-35mm proved to be a useable lens for northern lights as well. The pictures shown here come from the 6D, at ISO 3200 with the 16-35mm at f/4.
Well, this is just a first impression and I'll take more time this week to compare the pictures. Time will tell if and how much better I like that 6D. And even if that 6D is better, as it seems to be, than still that 5D MKII is a great camera.
