Details:
I was inspired by the images posted earlier by Hanno Falk on Aug 16 to do some searching through the Rosetta images to see if I could find a good set that I could make into a 3D image of the comet. To my delight, I found the perfect set of images to do exactly that. A NavCam image taken Aug 15, and an OSIRIS image taken Aug 3 made the perfect pair due to identical lightning conditions, angle of separation, and similar resolution. I then had to determine the visual axis of rotation of the object for the correct depth alignment, and the apparent size difference to correct for different apparent diameters. Once the images were both properly rotated and resized, I could combine them to make these 3D images! I kept the OSIRIS image at full resolution and increased the NavCam image size to match it. With a little sharpening and added contrast, the NavCam image comes close in level of detail with the OSIRIS image taken 12 days earlier.
