Details:
I shot these August 26/27 from the Frenchman River valley in Grasslands National Park in Saskatchewan, Canada. The display started as a weak arc to the northeast but brightened about local midnight (12 am CST) and became fairly active for 30 minutes or so, with lots of movement and fainter red rays at the tops of the curtains. But this was never a spectacular display - the long exposures (30 to 60 seconds here) brought out the colours and intensity more than the eye could see. I used a 14mm lens and Canon 6D. These are part of a 200-frame time-lapse.
