My first attempt at Comet Jacques C/2014 E2, WOW its bright, I could see it through the Frosted DSLR view screen. Magnitude 6.4, Coma Diameter ~ 11 Arcmin Comet 2014 E2 Jacques on 08-23-2014 @ 06:13 U.T. Captured at John Bryan State Park, Yellow Springs, Ohio USA Canon 6D(Full Frame CMOS Chip) DSLR & my Home-built 16" Diameter F4.5 Newt. Scope, ISO 3200, 80 seconds exposure Cropped slightly to get rid of Vignetting Cropped FOV = 52.7 x 35.7 Armin, 1.7 Arcsec/pixel FOV Centered on RA 01h 29m 25.7s & Dec +64d 47m 5.6s up -179d E of N. A noticeable amount of red dust around Nucleus too! I did not notice a long tail...but I was fighting High Cirrus clouds all night, so if there is one, it was obscured by the high clouds. I see the nucleus blurring in 60 to 80 seconds, so the comet is moving rapidly through Cassiopeia right now, ...as it is likely within .6 AU away (55.8 million miles away) really close to the Earth this month. Go figure right after I close-up due to clouds it clears again....so decide to do a wide angle shot. The wide angle shot was a DSLR Camera on a tripod for a 10 Second exposure, to show you that you can capture Comet Jacques with out a telescope! Details: Comet 2014 E2 Jacques (marked by Red Hash) moving through Cassiopeia! Canon 6D, 58mm lens, F4.0, ISO 10,000. Best Regards, John Chumack
