Details:
As I was looking for Mercury tonight, I came across a very pale curved pattern that, a couple of minutes later, I realized to be the young Moon, 30.8 hours past new and only 1.5% illuminated. The second shot shows it apparently poised on a lightning rod of a communication antenna sitting on top of a nearby building. All photos were taken with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i camera between 21:02 and 21:09 UTC as the altitude of the Moon decreased from 7.6° to 6.0° above the western horizon.
