Thanks for this excellent photo of C/2014 E2 Jacques from 08/15/2014. My observatory is a gravel quarry with 60 foot-high walls located in southern Wisconsin about 10 miles north of Davis, Illinois. It gives me the best local midwestern dark skies and is only 60 miles from my home. Here in the midwest US, there is much skyglow from cities like Chicago. Taking photos from this Quarry lets me block much of this skyglow from my cameras. I hope to use your sharp pin-point stars with their small asterism shapes ( star patterns ) by comparing them to my local star backgrounds shot with a digital OM Evolt 330 camera with a 180 mm Tamron f/2.5 ( 1.4 x 180mm = 252 mm ) lens to locate this comet position in my photos. I believe I have seen it visually with my Canon 15 x 50 stabilized Binoculars but it is hard to point my camera to that area of the sky with any accuracy. I did a check with M31 and did catch its image. I am hoping to do the same with this moving target of C/2014 E2 as it crosses my midwest sky. My effort is made more difficult this year by all the hazy skies we are getting from the large forest fires in the western US and southwestern Canada. If I am successful, I will post some shots on my Flickr phtostream. Here is a permanent link for my photostream. Today, Aug 16, I will post some shots of my quarry and a photo of M31 in Hercules which I shot on August 15 with my camera and lens. Thanks for giving me a target to look for in my attempts to capture comet Jacques... http://flic.kr/ps/xUCPt As Ever, Orin Keplinger in Garden Prairie, Illinois, USA Email orink@t6b.com Thanks, Again :)
