STORY:
Comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS) is at perihelion today (April 19, 2026).
Last week I created a custom horizon for Stellarium to simulate the sky from a location I sometimes use to photograph the core of the Milky Way.
For the horizon, I used photos taken during my trip on March 12, 2019.
While I check this new horizon in Stellarium, I noticed that the position of comet C/2025 R3 these days will be near the ruins of Slanec Castle.
Early this morning we traveled with Martin Žák to photograph the core of the Milky Way.
After the astronomical night ended, we moved to a location approximately 100 m away, where I created a horizon for Stellarium, and we continued our attempt to capture the comet. After a few minutes, the comet appeared to the right of the castle.
Related position of the comet and the castle on the result photo is on April 19th, 2026 at 02:02 UT.
I hope, that the result will be liked even though the comet tail is very fine 🙂.
