Big thanks to this site for featuring my AR4374 animation yesterday. I took a frame from the animation and converted it into a 3D surface by making dark areas lower than bright areas. This turned the dark sunspot into a depression as described by the Wilson effect. I know this is not scientifically accurate but it looks pretty cool. You can view and spin the model on your browser by visiting my website link or visiting http://starrydave.com/3d/ar4374/sunspot3D.html. Drag the mouse to spin and use wheel to zoom. Looks best in full screen like the second image here. Next step is to animate the surface topography to show the Evershed effect.
