I have attached an image, taken last night, with Comet Lemmon, a Hubble Space Telescope Transit, The Milky Way and an almost First Quarter Moon.
I went to the VLA last night to take wide-field landscape photos of Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon).
I pre-programmed my mount to take photos with my Rokinon 135mm lens beginning at the end of twilight. I used this data in my image The final image is a composite.
I arrived just before sunset, and after setting up I watched as the sky slowly darkened.
As I was waiting I caught a view of a SpaceX rocket launch from California.
It was very low on the horizon and I didn't get a good shot of it.
But I saw the plume from the rocket, and then a beautiful bright glow from the exhaust as the sun set lower below the horizon. It was probably 700 miles west of me.
Due to the distraction of the launch, I moved my camera more to a southerly direction and started to take some pics.
By a stroke of luck, I noticed an alert on my phone that the Hubble Space Telescope was about to transit the southern sky.
I had seconds to act if I was to photograph it.
I had no idea if this was even a visible transit, but I gave it a try anyway.
I framed it with my 24mm lens to include the comet to the west, and the nearly first quarter moon to the south.
I was quite pleased to see the Milky Way pop out the way it did also. All in all, an exciting experience at one of my favourite places to see the night sky.
