Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) is now getting higher above the southwest horizon after it gets dark and is visible with binoculars and small telescopes. The comet has a nice rich green 10' (0.17 degree) wide coma with a compact bright white central region near the nucleus. The tail is rather faint to the upper left of the coma in this image composed of 6x10s stacked images. On the evening of October 14 UT the comet was magnitude 6.4 and was not visible to the naked eye from a very dark part of North Dakota where the Milky Way Galaxy looked like a band of bright white clouds stretching across the sky from the northeast to the southwest. The comet will continue to get higher above the southwest horizon each night now after it gets dark and should remain about magnitude 6 for the next few weeks.
