Details:
I was able to observe C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) this morning using my ES 102ED telescope. I fabricated an extended dew shield to reduce solar glare and used a 16mm Nagler eyepiece outfitted with an orange filter. Angle offsets from the sun put me right on the comet. The nucleus was very small and condensed and you can even see a little of the comet’s tail. Today, the comet is a little over 6° from the sun…be careful! Here’s a quick iPhone 14 shot of the view taken at 12:27 pm local time (17:27 UT). The camera couldn’t see the comet through the orange filter but it could once the filter was removed. Enjoy!
