Details:
To my surprise, I was able to capture Comet ATLAS only 5.5 degrees from the sun just before local noon. I used an Askar 80mm refractor with a solar filter to sync the mount on the position of the sun, then moved to the comet's coordinates. I removed the solar filter and held up a piece of cardboard to block the stray light going into the telescope tube. Even a short exposure was completely saturated, so I put in an 850nm infrared-pass filter and the comet appeared! This image is a stack of three 0.1-second exposures with a ZWO 2600MM monochrome camera.
