Details:
Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS sets over the Tuscan hills near Montespertoli, Italy, on October 15, 2024. Capturing this shot was quite a challenge, not only due to the over 100 km of travel in search of clear skies, the thick veils of cloud near the horizon and the nearly full moonlight, but also because of the post-processing needed to combine photos taken with two different focal lengths. The perspective and actual positions of the celestial objects were carefully reconstructed and preserved. Technical details: Canon EOS 6D with Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 and Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lenses. For the comet, 177 exposures of 5 seconds each at f/4, ISO 3200 were captured at 85mm using a SkyWatcher Star Adventurer tracker. For the landscape, a single 30-second untracked exposure at 50mm, f/5.6, ISO 3200 was used.
