Details:
12P/Pons-Brooks @ 2024 May 7, 17:41 UT After becoming observable only from the southern hemisphere, comet 12P/Pons-Brooks shows a formidable aspect as it sets over the mountainous horizon between the Central Highlands and the Namibian Desert. Its coma shines at magnitude 4.5, and from it emanates the straight ion tail that rises several degrees in the sky, revealing undulating structures of plasma carried by the solar wind. On the other hand, the dust tail fans out to the right, scattering dust particles across the comet's orbital plane.
