My wife was reading messages on Facebook tonight that due to solar activity, the Northern Lights may be visible in New England from 10PM to 2AM. There was a Facebook message from someone in Newtown that they were seeing red northern lights. We went out to look, but didn't see much. The sky was a bit hazy with some stars visible. The sky looked a bit reddish, but we thought maybe it was just our imagination. My wife then found a Facebook news article that recommended using a smartphone camera to look at the sky because smartphone cameras are very sensitive to red light. That worked amazingly well. We pointed our phones at different parts of the sky and could find red patches in certain directions. I attached a photo that I took at 10:45 PM. The Big Dipper is visible in the photo. This photo was taken with an Iphone-15 Pro.
