Details:
We started the evening with Comet 12P and finished with a Kp8 aurora. Not bad for the first night of our Astrophotography Workshop here in the Mackenzie Basin. I received the alert of incoming IMF enhancement in the wee hours, quickly messaged my clients with the good news (spoiling their sweet dreams of course!) and we set up camp above a layer of fog building in Twizel. The naked eye experience was INCREDIBLE and (despite what I said to my clients initially) is the best I've ever seen. Clear colour, structure and movement all visible to the naked eye and reaching up to 30°-40° above the horizon at times. I don't make a habit of photographing on workshops, but I did want to grab a couple of frames of us enjoying the experience. So thank you to Richard, Koshy, David and Rach for being here to enjoy such a spectacular experience under the stars. Now for a little more sleep before we head out once more into the dark to see what awaits tonight... 15mm, f/2.8, 8s, ISO 6400. Twizel, 6:04 a.m. NZST, Saturday 11 May 2024.
