Details:
Strong geomagnetic activity this afternoon/evening, with several intense CMEs reaching our planet.
Here's what my prototype magnetometer has recorded in the NW of Scotland. The first signals of something changing were after 14-15UTC, with a strong disturbance (that is still ongoing) from just after 17UTC. Strong auroras are being observed from relatively low latitudes.
The prototype sensor is inside my house, N/S oriented, with its data filtered to cut the artificial spikes caused by nearby electronic equipment. The second plot shows the signal rate of change. At the same time, the third illustrates the overall activity via the colors that we are accustomed to from other aurora monitoring sources.
It is shaping up to be a great geomagnetic episode. Crossed fingers for clearer skies tonight!
