Details:
Stable Auroral Red (SAR) arc is new to me. I haven't seen the aurora, or its artifacts, above Texas since the great auroral display of 11/8/1991. Aurora of any kind is rare at 33° north latitude, but probably occurs more often than we notice. Auroral red pillars showed up just above the horizon at 10:10 CST and disappeared about 10:25 CST at my position northwest of Lubbock, TX. The SAR arc was barely visible to the eye, but the red pillars went unnoticed until I looked at the images. Canon 7D, 11mm, f2.8, 20 sec exp, ISO 1600.
