Details:
Pleiades M45 as iterated GradientMergeMosaic, which is innovative calibration, registration and frame adaptation in image domain and integration in frequency domain with 2D-FFT and -IFFT. In PixInsight they call it the "Laplace or Gradient Domain". You can avoid pinced stars if you appy it iteratively, use a seed as first image and crop-stretch every single frame with the Blink function in PixInsight. Background extraction (DBE) is applied between iterations! 4x4 tiles + 5x5 tiles, a total of 158 frames, i.e., a little more than 2.5 hours of exposure time with the KAF8300 CCD monochrome imager cold camera. Unguided free running exposures of 60s through blue filter in 2x2 binning mode with reduced sampling and download time. 12-inch Newton at fast aperture of f/3.81, f=1163 mm. Post-processing: BlurXTerminator and NoiseXTerminator AI recombi with conventionally stretched images done in Affinity Photo. Remark: Successful AI sharpening and noise reduction with the smaller stars, no digital hallucinations found! Location and time: Karben/Germany in the garden under half-moon conditions at end of September 2023. Sky background: moderate 19-20 mag/arcsec^2, changing background brightness, continuous high fog fields, actually not the conditions for broadband mosaics. By the way, a popular mistake, the Pleiades are not “Mist embedded in their creation”, but rather move at a high rate of relative velocity through the Taurus molecular cloud 444 ly away. The Pleiades emerged in the denser regions of this molecular cloud some 100 million years ago, 4-6 image fields away. Many thanks to my friend Rainer Spaeni in Swizerland for applying BlurXTerminator and NoiseXTerminator, see: BlurXTerminator with Russ Croman on YouTube Best regards Dr. Sighard Schräbler
