Details:
On the third attempt I managed to capture Comet Nishimura after sunset. I was about to delete these files too when in one last re-examination I finally spotted a lone spot in a spotless blue sky. Maybe it was in the first 2 evenings' sets too and I just never found it. Even on this night I never saw it on the camera's monitor nor in 15x50IS binoculars.
Sometimes I enlarge stars slightly from my small-sensored camera to make them a bit more conspicuous, but not this time. Let's test your visual acuity!
#1: Comet over the mountains (note the tower at extreme right). 3° high at earliest time, 1 2/3° at latest time. Labeled.
#2: Test: Spot the comet in a clear sky. Hint: you get 4 chances.
#3: Give up? Labels here.
Photo data:
In my first 2 evening sessions I had everything automated and got nothing. I expected little tonight so just shot a few bracketed exposures in manual-exposure mode at random times. Here are the rough stats:
... Panasonic GX8, Lumix 100-300mm lens @ 150mm, photo tripod
... took 5EV-bracketed exposures every 2-3 minutes using a wired shutter remote
... bracketing center point was manually varied from 1/8-1/2 sec as illumination levels dropped
... each subexposure used in the final composite was taken at (f/4.5, 1/2 sec, ISO 200)
... date/time of last sub: Sep 19, 2023 8:21pm MDT (= Sep 20, 2023 2:21 UT)
