Comet C/2023 P1 Nishimura and M 44 Beehive Close Up
On the morning of September 4, 2023, Comet Nishimura passed near the open star cluster M44 ( Beehive ) in the Cancer constellation from our point of view. In fact, they were even closer on 1 – 2 September 2023. However, I couldn't take a photo because it was cloudy.
Nishimura will pass perihelion (the closest position to the sun) on September 17, 2023. At this time, its distance from the sun will be 0.225 AU (33.75 million km.).
When the picture was taken, its distance from Earth is 0.974 AU (146.1 million km.), and its orbital speed is 59.83 km/s.
