Details:
HF and VLF Radio propagation data I captured during the X1 solar flare event just after 23:00 UTC today. The early evening Sun was down to about 22 degrees above my horizon when this event occurred. In addition, sunspot 3354 is no longer aimed directly at Earth, so the Doppler shift was not as dramatic as the X-flare event back on June 20th.
Nonetheless, today's event produced a ~1 Hz upward Doppler shift to station WWV's 10 MHz carrier frequency, along with a brief drop in signal strength. Meanwhile, further down the radio spectrum, the VLF propagation was enhanced as noted by a sudden rise in signal strength of station NAA for the duration of the flare event. The sharp dip in signal level near 01:30 UTC was caused by the D-layer in the Ionosphere dissipating due to the Sun setting at my locale.
