Details:
I have seen Aurora in Hampshire (Southern England)a few times but this is the first time I have been able to image Aurora from my hometown a few miles north of the city of Southampton. This was about 22:30UT I could gave had some nice photos as I was already at my chosen observing site in anticipation of the Aurora, however I quickly discovered I had made a very silly mistake, earlier I was uploading some photos onto my PC and I forgot to put the memory card back in my camera so i had to walk back and get it. My friend was there and just as I was setting back out he called to tell me Aurora was visible. I walked as fast as I could, especially as I could see clouds starting to come in but unfortunately it was quite a short lived spell of activity and was starting to fade when I got there, but at least I was able to get a photo which shows a distinct purple glow in the north which can only be Aurora. The activity dropped off and we gave it a while in the hope it would pick up again but soon we decided to call it a night. Just as soon as I was starting to fall asleep I got a Aurora red alert but I was so tired and the thought of getting out of my nice warm comfy bed and going back outside was unappealing so I decided I would ignore it. Wish i had not as it looks as if the early morning activity was even more intense.
