Details:
A well-established flow of warm moist air from the ITCZ is bringing overcast conditions and a considerable amount of rain to Mutare. However some late afternoon breaks in the cloud are providing glimpses of the setting sun beneath cumulonimbus anvils. On Friday one such gap provided intermittent views of strong iridescence in thin veils of high cloud above the setting sun for twenty minutes between 6.05 and 6.23 pm. This iridescence was difficult to capture against glare from the nearby Sun. A considerable amount of processing was required to remove the cast from setting sunlight and recover the beautiful rainbow colours that appear in the accompanying images. Camera: Hand-held Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ40 in sunset mode.
