Details:
A small asteroid about 1 meter in size, discovered on the evening of February 12 by Krisztian Sarneczky of GINOP-KHK Piszkesteto in Hungary, impacted the Earth this morning (02-13-2023) at 4 am Italian time producing a bright bolide between the Normandy and the United Kingdom. This is the seventh small celestial body, discovered outside the earth's atmosphere, to collide with our planet. Less than a couple of hours after its discovery, the asteroid, dubbed 2023 CX1, was also photographed and measured by our Observatory by the members Testa and Manca, thus helping to precisely determine its orbit and the location of the impact. The image obtained by chasing the asteroid was taken by Sormano just before midnight, 4 hours before the impact with our planet.
