This aurora curtain over my neighborhood in rural Iceland kicked off a long show just before midnight. We've been in the grip of a deep freeze, with heavy snowfall (50-75 cm) and record low temperatures (below -20 C). Last night's unexpected auroras were a nice break and a good way to bring the year to a close.
