Details:
A brilliant aurora curtain radiates over the Wrangell Mountains in the Copper River Basin, Alaska, on November 7, 2022 at 5:25 am AKST (Alaska Standard Time). Nine hours of negative/southward-dipping Bz beginning at midnight local time (0900 UTC) led to an exceptionally strong morning aurora display. The Bz component of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field rules! Although the colors popped extra brightly in this 1-1/2 second exposure, I didn’t feel like toning them down because in my reality, this was a rare glimpse at mind-blowing, naked-to-the-eye reds.
