This will take a bit of doing.
I posted an image taken on November 1st with my best camera. The two poor images here were taken this evening, November 5th, with my cell phone. Not very good, but they convey the gist.
I had planned to be at Cedar Creek at sunset to shoot whatever the sky might offer, but circumstances prevented that. So, I decided to just observe and record whatever I saw, and that is what follows:
Sunset was at 6:15 pm, CDT. At 6:24, I observed the upper half of a Bishop's Ring. The ring itself a brownish-red color and ~ 10 degrees thick, and with an ~ 30 degree radius. Inside the ring, the sky was a pearly, whitish blue color, while outside the ring it was normal blue sky. At 6:27 I looked eastward, and saw three anticrepuscular rays converging on the antisolar point below the horizon. By 6:28, the coloration of the sky inside the Bishop's Ring was now a pale yellow. At 6:30, a pink dome reached 45 degrees above the horizon over the sun's position. By 6:33, the dome had vanished, and with my naked eye I could see fine, delicate striations in what I took to be the aerosol layer - possibly very fine volcanic ash. At 6:35, the twilight arch was becoming conspicuous, rising 10 degrees above the horizon over the sun's position. At 6:37, the arch was now 8 degrees high. At 6:40, the arch was 6 degrees high, and beautiful purple crepuscular rays were fanning out all across the WSW horizon!! At 6:43, I took the first photo above. At 6:45,
I took the second photo, and noted the twilight arch was now only ~ 2.5 degrees tall at its thickest. At 6:48, the rays were now just 6 degrees tall. At 6:52 pm, the crep rays now only reached ~ 2.5 degrees above the horizon. Within 5 more minutes, the show was over!
