HISTORY:
I am sure that this photograph evokes (at least that was my intention) the one taken by Joe Rosenthal on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima in 1945 and which today is one of the most iconic in history.
I really wanted to create my own version, together with the Moon that we had a few days ago and that hours later was eclipsed, with 4 people who are my brothers instead of 5 who were the Rosenthal takers and with the flag of Ukraine as a symbol for the current war in recent months.
With this photograph I wanted, in addition to emulating that historical moment, to pay homage to the soldiers and civilians who are fighting for their country in an invasion that has the whole world awake.
The idea of the “Iwo Jima flag raising” came to me a two years ago after taking a photo that reminded me of the historical one, I thought… why not do it my way? During all that time I missed several themes to attach to that image but none filled me until the invasion began.
It's been a few months since that, but the bad weather didn't help me to do it until last Sunday when I got it together with my 4 brothers (Toni, Cari, Tin and Hermi) who did a great job as a team, some dressed in military and other civilians, successfully raised the flag on a mountain at the foot of Sierra del Cid.
Single exposure for the overall photo and another overexposed shot for the dark areas of the foreground.
