Details:
The arrival of the Hunga Tonga eruption plume in Africa on 22 January (first animation) was followed two days later by landfall of Tropical Storm Ana. Although the two events are not directly related, reflections from sunlight passing through the eruption plume produced strange colours in rain clouds viewed from the ground at late sunset twilight and in cloud tops visible in satellite imagery at sunrise. By coincidence the last four days movement of the Hunga Tonga eruption plume (first animation) followed almost the same path as Tropical Storm Ana (second animation). Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset mode. Modified satellite images for eruption plume animation from https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/OMI/OMISO2/Tropics_SO2.html Other visual and infrared satellite images courtesy Kobus Botha Weather http://www.weatherphotos.co.za/index.html
