Details:
A plume of volcanic aerosols and sulphur dioxide ejected into the stratosphere by the violent eruption of the Hunga Tonga volcano on 14-15th January has reached the east coast of Africa (last image). This resulted in a strange coloured sunset twilight and then twilight arch that was visible from Mutare for over an hour on Saturday (22nd) as shown in the accompanying pictures taken between 6.34 and 7.38 pm. In the last one Jupiter is surrounded by a bright orange glow when the sky would normally have been dark. Camera: Hand-held Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset and intelligent auto modes.
