Details:
It may be too late for Northeners, but dwellers of the Southern hemisphere are in for a heavenly Christmas treat: Yesterday (Dec. 23) Comet Leonard experienced another surge in brightness, I saw it as a fuzzy "star" at 4,0 mag again from the island of La Palma at 28° North and at 1000m above sea level from my very dark sky site. That's compared to 4.5mag the night before. Later that day, observers on COBS even reported magnitudes up to 3.2. At the time of the picture at 20:05 UTC, the comet was merely 5.5° above the horizon - and above the Atlantic coastal clouds!
