Details:
I was on high alert awaiting the impact of the CME that left the Sun a few days ago. As the CME impacted Earth around 9pm Central time, I watched as aurora sightings trickled southward. I was still in a band of clouds and light rain and drove an hour and a half in search of dark skies and the aurora. This was one of the more gorgeous displays of the AuroraBorealis I had seen from Eastern Iowa. The skies did not disappoint. It was well worth the drive and loss of sleep. The time-lapse video (link below) was captured between 1 and 2:30am Central time, October 12, 2021 near Oran, Iowa. The time-lapse is a complilation of 160, 30 second images stitched together. Canon 6D, 24mm lens, f/4, ISO 1600. YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/_EaQI4sb2xQ
